Lack of Progress

Today was the day I was supposed to start my 2012 7DRL entry Turambar. I had company over all afternoon and evening. Then I got a tired so I took a nap. When I woke up, I was still tired. Grabbed a bite to eat. Did I get to work coding out my 7DRL entry? Nope. I guess I am just goofing off. I played Angband instead.

I am playing a level 49 mage named Lasher in Angband. He has a decent 558 HP average damage per round. If enemies are not resistant to lightning or acid, the average damage goes way up to 932 HP per round. This is all thanks in part to my newly found Glaive of Pain (9d6) (+9,+30). My rings of lightning and acid help with the massive damage. They also contribute to my 200++ armor class.

One problem my character has is that he cannot see invisible creates. He can get blinded and confused as well. That is no fun. I have some helmets that prevent blindness and allow see invisible. But I gave all that up to wield the Steel Helm of Hammerhand (+9,+9) [9,20] +3. You got to love that plus to hit and damage bonus.

Well I hope to at least start my 7DRL entry tomorrow. But I have so many other things to do. I feel the procrastination kicking in so hard.

Original Colors

Now that I pretty much got my maze working, I turned the the issue of color. Currently I had the default colors which come with a Java component. Boring. And it does not feel like a roguelike. No. I want this thing to look like Angband.

So I painted the background black. And the walls are painted white. Yeah this looks like a monochrome game or Moria. But it is an improvement over the default colors I had before. Eventually I shall add some colorful colors. For now I am satisfied.

It is definitely time to fix the problems at the edges of the maze. Then perhaps I shall put weapons and armor in the maze. That shall be fun.

JSRL Version 1.1

I have released version 1.1 of my roguelike game JSRL. You can now use your keyboard for player navigation. The screen now has full information on the commands you can use. I also added an intro screen graphic.

Now I plan to concentrate on making the game more playable. I need to add Angband-like features. Definitely need a whole lot more types of monsters. I also want to add different items you can find like weapons and armor.

For now I plan to continue improvement on my game. Let's see how far I can take this.

Windows 7

Previously I tried running Angband v3.0 on my laptop. The graphics would not scale correctly for my screen. Plus the thing kept aborting. So I decided to go on an Angband hiatus.

Recently I decided to give it another try. Version 3.2 has graphics that better suit my screen. The application still exits mysteriously from time to time. However I am able to restart my game where I left off.

Right now I am a human mage character level 4. I knocked off Farmer Maggot to get a shield. It has not been identified yet. But I am wielding it because I am pretty sure it is enchanted.
